3. A firefighter named Guy Montag burns books instead of putting out fires. All the firefighters in this futuristic world are in place to burn books. He never questions it, but he hoards books on the side because he wants to find out their meaning. People in his world do what their told and get all their information from giant wall sized televisions and ear buds called ‘seashell sets’. He then meets a young girl who tells him stories about the past were people weren’t afraid to read and think for themselves. He slowly wants to realizes that he wants the world to be the way it used to, were people think for themselves and aren’t afraid to go against the social norms. He is forced to burn his stash of books by the fire chief Beatty and is nearly arrested. Instead of going in quietly he kills Beatty and runs he is then chased by the Mechanical Hound as a traitor and flees society to join other people who share his views. All these people in the society have memorized books and plan to enlighten the world after the war is over.

8. Describe each scene setting in detail:
a. Outdoors at night, sometime in the 24th or so century. Montag runs through the entire city where he lives barely escaping the Hound, all the while he is on everyone’s televisions.
b. Indoors, sometime in the 24th century. Inside the old woman’s mostly book filled house, she decides that she wants to die with knowledge rather than live with ignorance. She lights the kerosene instead of letting the firefighters do it.
c. Outside during the day, sometime in the 24th century. Montag’s house and neighborhood. He is surrounded by his fellow firefighters and chief.

a. Guy Montag- A fireman that burns books. Has a black fire hat with the number 451 on it. Dark eyes light by flame. He enjoys burning books at first and it leaves him with a smile. Smoke smudges on face. Ignorant and unquestioning till the old woman dies with her books.
b. Faber- former English professor. Old tired and withered. Knowledgeable and intelligent.
c. Mildred Montag- dead inside and vacant ignorant and untrusting of new knowledge
d. Clarisse- open and free. Openly seeks new knowledge and enjoys nature and plant life. Blond and wispy sort of hippy like.
e. Captain Beatty- crude and ominous. Protects ignorance by destroying knowledge. Large and forbodding. Character foil to Faber
f. Mechanical Hound- dead but not dead alive but not alive. Whirring and buzzing with green glow and smooth metallic body, has an injection needle that comes out from it’s mouth. Pg. 136
g. Granger- leader of the book reading society, dressed in loose dark denim clothes smelling of nature. Intellectual and old. Pg. 147
